#TopPicks: March ’18 Outings

March kicks off yet another marvelous month of activities. Whether your Little prefers the indoors or the outdoors, there’s plenty to do and explore around Los Angeles! Don’t forget to check out our calendar for more outing opportunities around the city!

The Ugly Duckling at Storybook Theatre: A great show for kids from 3-9 years old! Runs Saturdays at 1 pm. Adult tickets are $15, and tickets for children are $12.

El Dorado Archers Saturday Classes [Long Beach]: Learn archery through a beginner class. $5 rental fee per person.

Free admission at MOCA Grand Ave and Geffen Contemporary: Every Thursday from 5-9 pm!

Bayshore Rink Party [Long Beach]: Thursdays 6-8 pm, public roller rink time for all ages and abilities.

Katy Perry, Frock & Roll [Downtown LA]: This exhibit features the costumes of Katy Perry. Not to be missed, for the Katy Perry-fanatic! Adult tickets are $12.95, youth tickets are $10.95.

Friday, March 2

The Classic Auto Show [LA Convention Center]: If your Little goes crazy for classic cars, consider a trip to the Classic Auto Show, running from March 2-4! $25 adult admission, and $5 for kids under 12 years old.

Seussational Literacy Celebration [Redondo Beach]: Yak Academy presents an evening of games, snacks, prizes, and raffles!

Saturday, March 3

Cherry Blossom Festival [Palos Verdes]: Enjoy the cherry blossoms at South Coast Botanic Garden! Featuring taiko drumming, hula dances, and other performances, plus crafts and food, this event will surely be a crowd-pleaser. Adult tickets are $9, kids under 12 are $4, and students with ID are $6.

826LA Songwriting Workshop [Mar Vista]: Learn about song lyrics, different types of songs, and songwriting.

SoCal Rocket Association Launch [Santa Fe Dam Recreational Center]: Check out a model rocket launch at this community event!

LA Lantern Festival [Downtown LA]: Celebrate the closing of Chinese New Year Festivities with museum tours, live entertainment, books, crafts, and food trucks at El Pueblo Historical Monument.

Family Arts Fest [Malibu]: Experience a family friendly day of art, food, and fun at Pepperdine University’s Smothers Theatre.

International Women’s Day March & Rally [Downtown LA]: Bring your budding activist along for a march featuring poets, speakers, and musicians demonstrating to promote a feminist future.

Super Seuss-a-bration [Santa Monica]: Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with readings, performances, and crafts at the library!

Free Saturday Family Series [Long Beach]: Experience this free opportunity to learn about the magic of theatre. Reservations are required for “Let Them Eat Books,” a performance of poems and stories from famous writers.

Healthy Eating and Exercise Fair [Long Beach]: Enjoy fun activities, delicious healthy treats, and games, prizes, and giveaways!

Sunday, March 4

Long Beach Touch-A-Truck: For Littles that go wild for trucks, this is an event not to be missed. About 100 vehicles are expected to be on display for this free event. Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation for the city’s local food banks. Register here to attend!

Dana Point Festival of the Whales: This free, 2 day (3/3 & 3/4) event celebrates the migrating whales through whale watching, a parade, an art show, beach cleanup, and more!

STEAM Machines [Santa Monica]: Cheer on the Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, and Math innovators of tomorrow at the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest on the Pier!

Purim Carnival [Santa Monica]: 18th Street will be closed for a day of games, rides, vendors, food, and more!

Barnsdall Art Sundays [Hollywood]: Create a rain stick through this free art workshop held at Barnsdall Art Park.

44th Annual Festival of the Kite [Redondo Pier]: Witness the floating wonder of hundreds of kites at this free annual festival!

Tango on the Terrace [Beverly Hills]: Debbie Allen’s free outdoor dance event is back, this time teaching you and your Little how to learn the Tango!

Story Pirates [Beverly Hills]: This performance by and for kids features stories written by kids in the audience.

Tiny Terrariums [La Brea]: Make your own tiny terrarium garden using organic materials during this botanical workshop at the Craft & Folk Art Museum. $7 for adults, $5 for kids, free for members.

LA Summer Camp Fair [UCLA]: Is your Little still figuring out their summer plans? This free summer camp expo introduces them to a wealth of opportunities for summer fun.

Wednesday, March 14

Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop [University Park]: The California African American Museum (CAAM) celebrates the openings of their newest installations, to the tunes of DJ sets and food trucks. A free event!

UCLA Planetarium Show: Learn about the night sky, constellations, and more at this free show at the UCLA planetarium given by a current astronomy grad student.

Venice Art Crawl: This free community event showcases local artists and vendors. This month’s event takes place on Windward Ave. Check their Facebook for updates!

Friday, March 16

The Other Art Fair [Downtown LA]: Saatchi Art presents a showcase of work from 100 talented, emerging artists. This event runs all weekend long, and admission runs from $8.80 to $16.50.

Saturday, March 17

Nothin’ but Sand Beach Cleanup [Venice Beach]: Join Heal the Bay for a beach cleanup! Make sure to complete a waiver for yourself and for your Little prior to attending.

LA Nature Fest [Downtown LA]: This two-day event (3/17 and 3/18) will introduce your Little to the wild side of LA. Attendees will have the opportunity to chat with scientists and enjoy nature crafts. Adult admission is $15, student admission is $12, and children under 12 are $7.

Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade: This annual celebration of Irish heritage includes bagpipers, floats, horses, and more.

Wildflower Showcase [Irvine]: Learn about native flora and see some blooms with the Native Plant Society.

Kids Fishing Derby [Fountain Valley]: The lake at Mile Square Regional Park will be stocked with 1,000 lbs of trout or catfish so kids 6-15 years old can fish for free. Fishing clinics are on-site, and limited fishing rods will be available on loan.

Sunday, March 18

Huntington Beach Cherry Blossom Festival: This free, annual event features taiko, Japanese dance, music, face painting, and more!

Restoration Day at Peters Canyon Park [Irvine]: Improve the natural habitat at the park by removing non-native invasive plants.

Wednesday, March 21

MPA Watch Training [Santa Monica]: If your Little is passionate about environmental conservation, they may enjoy attending Heal the Bay’s citizen-science based program, MPA Watch. Volunteers are trained on how to collect data while walking along the most beautiful beaches of Malibu and Palos Verdes.

Friday, March 23

WonderCon [Anaheim]: This 3-day event at the Anaheim Convention Center is sure to please cartoon, anime, and comic lovers of all ages! One day adult tickets are $20-35, kids ages 13-17 are $10-17, and kids under 12 are free with a paying adult.

Saturday, March 24

Santa Monica Airport Artwalk: Admission and parking are free at the 12th annual showcase of art and ceramic demonstrations, theater and art workshops, live music, and food.

Read with the BARK Dogs [Long Beach]: Read to therapy dogs at 3 different Long Beach libraries- Bach, Los Altos, and Harte.

Sunday, March 25

Cesar Chavez Family Day [Downtown LA]: Celebrate the life of this inspirational labor leader through interactive, hands-on workshops.

Junior Oral Historians [Westwood]: Bring your favorite personal object and tell an untold story of an object from your life at this Oral History Archive event at the Hammer Museum.

Saturday, March 31

San Fernando Street Festival [Pasadena]: The streets are closed for this open streets event, perfect for walkers, bikers, skaters, and rollerbladers to play in the car-free streets.
