#TopPicks: July ’18 Outings

There are tons of free and low-cost events happening throughout July! This month features multiple opportunities to check out an outdoor movie or live performance. Don’t forget to check out the calendar for more outing ideas!

Ongoing Events

Through July 4th- Grand Park’s Big L.A. Portrait Gallery: [Free] — For Littles that love photography, this is a must-see. This nighttime art gallery includes photos from LA-based artists, projected to 100×100 ft high on the south wall of the LA County Hall of Records.

Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival is showing free, live performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Titus Andronicus throughout the month.

Play chess with your Little! The Van Nuys library has three chess sets available for use inside the library.

Pageant of the Masters takes place July 7th – September 1st, and involves people recreating great works of art accompanied by a full orchestra.

The OC Fair runs July 13 – August 12, and includes contests, food vendors, and carnival rides.

Tuesday, July 3

Moonlight Movies on the Beach: [Free] — Watch The Goonies on Granada Beach! Parking is free after 6 pm, and the movie begins at 8 pm. The screening features food trucks and snacks.

Stop Motion Animation: [Free] — Learn how to make your own stop-motion animated video at the Benjamin Franklin branch library.

Wednesday, July 4

Palos Verdes Annual Old Fashioned Independence Day Celebration: [Free] — Enjoy an apple pie contest, face painting, magic, and music at this morning festival.

Rancho Palos Verdes Fourth of July Celebration: [Free] — The afternoon will include kiddie carnival rides, games, crafts, and kids’ contests.

Theatricum Botanicum 4th of July Barn Dance: [$8-50] — Celebrate the 4th with a family hoe-down, featuring a pie-eating contest, watermelon seed spitting contest, relay races, and more.
